For all the milestones it produced, this was a weekend that ran on attrition. Kimi Antonelli won the Monaco Grand Prix from pole, 6.271 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton, and made a fifth straight win look quiet against everything happening behind him. Seven cars retired. Max Verstappen never completed a lap, beached in anti-stall at the lights. The race was red-flagged on lap 68 when the final corner began breaking up under the cars, and Charles Leclerc crashed out of his home race there. Isack Hadjar held on for a maiden podium in third, and Antonelli now leads the championship by 43 points. How that corner failed, and how the stewards settled Hadjar’s podium and Cadillac’s first point, are the deeper reads below.

Marc Marquez won at Balaton Park by 1.343 seconds from Pedro Acosta for the 100th Grand Prix victory of his career, a mark only Giacomo Agostini and Valentino Rossi had reached before him. He had help. Both championship-leading Aprilias crashed out together at the first corner of the opening lap, Jorge Martin running into his own team-mate and points leader Marco Bezzecchi, and Francesco Bagnaia came through to round out the podium. Bezzecchi still leads, 20 clear of Martin, but neither scored, and Marquez climbed to fifth. In the Monaco Formula 2 feature, Nikola Tsolov inherited the win after long-time leader Rafael Camara locked up. What that Turn 1 collision does to a title both Aprilias have led all year is taken up in full below.

One brand, two ladders: Red Bull’s Moto3 squad goes 1-2 while its F1 juniors stall
Red Bull KTM Ajo left Mugello with a Moto3 1-2 and a 17-year-old first-time winner; the Red Bull Junior Team’s lead Formula 2 asset left Montreal with no points. Same logo, opposite trajectories, and both programmes sat their exams within a day of each other this weekend, at Balaton Park and at Monaco.
