George Russell won from pole at the Red Bull Ring and held Max Verstappen by 1.611 seconds, his first win since Australia in March and the result that put him back to second in the championship behind team-mate Kimi Antonelli. Verstappen came through from fifth to second and is still seventh in the standings, where the exit clause built to free him has not opened. The same afternoon Nikola Tsolov won the Formula 2 feature to close within two points of Gabriele Mini.

Ai Ogura won at Assen for his first MotoGP victory, Japan's first in the premier class since 2004, at the head of a Trackhouse one-two; Marco Bezzecchi crashed out of fourth on lap two and handed the title lead to his own Aprilia team-mate Jorge Martin. Sebastien Ogier took the Acropolis by 58.3 seconds when two late punctures undid Thierry Neuville, a 69th career win, while at Watkins Glen the No. 31 Cadillac led 143 of 182 laps to take the six hours from pole.

Race to Road · Formula E · 25 June
Formula E built a 600kW car too big for the streets that made it
The GEN4 car arrives 87kg heavier, 90mm wider and with all-wheel drive, and London's ExCeL was judged too cramped to hold it. The series' answer is its largest calendar yet, 21 races across 13 cities, two of them in the United States for the first time since 2015.
